CCA celebrated the national day of prayer known as "See You at the Pole." This world-wide recognized day was student-initiated and a student-led movement that began in Texas in 1990 with a single church youth group. It grew to more than 3 million by 1998.
See You at the Pole was started in 1990 by some teens in Burleson, Texas. One Saturday night they felt compelled to pray, and so they went to three different schools and prayed at each schools flagpole. From there a challenge was issued to students throughout Texas to meet at their flagpoles and pray simultaneously.
The concept ballooned from there. Word spread quickly across the U.S., and youth ministers reported that students outside of Texas had heard about the event and were feeling the same burden for their schools as these Texas students had.
On September 11, 1991 the students got their national day of prayer, as over one million students from all around the country gathered around their flagpoles to pray. Today that number has grown to 3 million students in the U.S. and there are also students in 20 other countries that participate in the event.
