Osceola, MO, February 15, 2008: St. Clair County resident Larry McCrea announced today his intention to file for the Republican nomination for St. Clair County Sheriff. A 30-year veteran of professional law enforcement, McCrea’s diverse experience includes service as deputy sheriff, small town police officer, large city police officer, and police helicopter pilot.
Larry is a graduate of both the Missouri Highway Patrol Academy and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Academy. He has over 1000 hours of additional law enforcement training. Larry also attended Maple Woods College, furthering his education in law enforcement by Majoring in Criminal Justice, and is currently certified as a “Class A” law enforcement officer by The Missouri Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (POST).
Larry is seeking the office of Sheriff for several reasons, but foremost is the encouragement of many residents seeking to professionalize and modernize the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department. They believe Larry McCrea has the education, training, experience, and work ethic to accomplish this.
Larry was greatly alarmed when comparing official crime reports and arrests for St. Clair County, with those of adjoining and similar-size Missouri counties. During the first six years the incumbent has been in office, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department consistently ranks last in arrests, particularly with regard to drug violations.
Although running as a Republican because of his conservative values and beliefs, Larry has pledged to be the Sheriff for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
If elected, here is the framework of Larry’s agenda for the Sheriff's Office:
