Bill Shelton To Run for Henry County Collector/Treasurer

Bill Shelton of Montrose has announced that he will be running as the Republican candidate for the office of Henry County Collector/Treasurer.

His focus will be on bringing change through utilization of best practices and technology coupled with providing high levels of customer service to the taxpayers of Henry County.

Bill and his wife Bonnie live in Montrose. They have two sons Brad and Bryan and three grandchildren. Brad and his wife Terri and their daughter Devyn live in St Louis. Bryan and his wife Cinzia and their two children Matteo and Sofia live in Jefferson City.

Bill grew up in Montrose where he graduated from high school. He attended Central Missouri State at Warrensburg and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and also a degree in Accounting. After graduating from college he attended the American Management Association’s Corporate Cash Management Course and the Advance Treasury Management Techniques Course in New York. He also completed the Activity Based Costing (ABC) course at James Madison University, College of Business in Madison, Virginia.

For the past five years Bill has been a Broker/Sales Agent with RE/MAX Truman Lake in Clinton. Prior to moving back home to Henry County he held senior management positions in the Treasury, Cash Management and Accounting Departments of several large corporations. He has an in-depth knowledge of corporate computer technology and change management. Previous positions include Director of Finance and Administration with Scholastic Inc; Assistant Vice President-Controller for GC Services Corp; Manager of Commercial Receivables, Staff Manager of Commercial Collections and Supervisor Station Accounting for Saudi Arabian Airlines; and Supervisor of Cash Management for TWA. He has also held the position of Internal Auditor at Montrose Savings Bank in Montrose and while attending college had an Accounting Internship with Citizens Bank in Warrensburg.

In the past he has served as a School Board member in Montrose and as the Secretary and Treasurer for various church and professional groups. He most recently served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Midwest Board of Realtors and in that position brought their financial reporting and budgeting to new levels.

In addition to holding the above corporate positions he also has a very broad military background. In 2004 he retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel. For over 26 years he served in various positions primarily with the Missouri Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. He has served in and led Artillery, Army Aviation, and Combat Service Support units in the United States, Germany and Panama.

He is a member of First Baptist Church Clinton; American Legion; NRA Life Endowment Member; and Life Member Military Office Association.
