See You at the Pole at CCA

CCA celebrated the national day of prayer known as "See You at the Pole." This world-wide recognized day was student-initiated and a student-led movement that began in Texas in 1990 with a single church youth group. It grew to more than 3 million by 1998.

Churches Helping Each Other

The United methodist Church in Clinton and Holy Rosary have always had a good relationship. As neighbors that share the sames street, they have a get together once a year where they just close doen the street and have the members of both churches get together and mingle.

This year Pastor Maggi took it a step further when Holy Rosary didn't have their school lunchroom anymore due to it's being turned into classrooms. The old classrooms had been located in the rectory, where the priest- Fr. Phillip was supposed to live. As it was though, he ended up having to rent a little house down the street.

Holy Rosary is building a new lunchroom/Parish Hall, but it didn't get done by the time the school year started, so Fr. Phillip asked if they could use one of the kitchens in the Methodist church to prepare the meals for student at Holy Rosary. Like a good neighbor, Pastor Maggi said yes.

Holy Rosary Expanding

The Kids at Holy Rosary School have had some problems with room the past few years in their upper grades. Grades 5-8 had nowhere to go in and have their classes at in the main building, so they were taught in the rectory (parsonage) leaving the preist no where to live. This meant the Preist had to rent a house down the street. So, as part of a parish growth plan which includes a new church and parish hall, they renovated the basement where the lunch room. Now the old lunch room is where the new classrooms are. They also enlarged the library and put on a multi-purpose specdials room as well.

They didn't quite get the new lunch room done before the school year started, but the Methodist Church across the street has been kind enough to let them use their lunch room until the new hall is finished.

Getting People to Church!

At the Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, Pastor Bryan Keith decided to take a bet to get some of the visitors from Vacation Bible School to come for the ceremony on Sunday. He donned a dress. Everyone had a good laugh, and the Pastor Himself seemed to be very good natured about the whole thing. Perhaps because it was for a good cause.

Local Beautician Uses Her Gifts to Glorify God

Heidi, a local cosmetologist wanted to do some good with her ability to cut hair. Maybe it isn't saving the world, but you need to use the gifts you have, and she cuts hair.

"A lot of people don't have a lot of money to get their kids a haircut this year." she says. With the price of gas, eggs and milk going up- along with just about everything else due to the gas prices shooting through the roof, she set up a chair in the hall of her church (Crossroads Church of the Nazarene).

They had also set up a table with school supplies in the back of the church for anyone that wanted them. In a poorer area like ours, it's nice to see someone doing what they can to help out in any way they can. It may only be a little bit, but every little bit helps.

  • The Reason for the Season:

Remembering the Importance of Easter Senator Delbert Scott

Winter has lost its grip and spring has arrived at last. The warm weather, flowers beginning to bloom, buds swelling, and the return of songbirds all brings hope of new life. Brightly colored eggs, a large variety of sweet treats, and a furry, four-legged friend are all wonderful reminders of the Easter holiday. I especially enjoy watching the grandchildren during the annual hunt for their special surprises each year. While I watch little Landen and Clay search for their treasures tucked inches away from last year’s hiding spot, I gladly remember the true reason for the season — the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Community Easter Sunrise Service

A favorite holiday tradition is continuing. A community sunrise service will take place inside the Truman Lake Visitors’ Center at 6:30 AM on Easter morning. Everyone is invited to celebrate our risen Lord while enjoying the beauty of the view of the lakes area. Bring a chair and celebrate!

Warsaw United Methodist Church, the church on the square, is sponsoring this service.

Making Sure Our Families Can Pray Freely

State Representative Tom Self, 116th District

There are few instances that bring people together in prayer quite like tragedy does. After a recent storm swept across much of the South, many survivors gathered to remember and offer prayers for those who had lost their lives in the deadly tornado outbreak. The right to pray is inherent in our country’s Constitution, and thank God, because we need the power of prayer to get through these trying circumstances.

Strong Marriage Equals Good Foundation for Kids

    Lisa Wallace

“A marriage seminar, you’ve got to be kidding,” exclaimed my husband as we read the flier in the church bulletin. I knew it was going take a hard sell to get him to go with me. I wanted to go the minute I saw the flier. After all, I am a human development specialist. I work with families professionally. Anything related to children and families is interesting to me; I am always open to learning more about relationships and families.
